This article outlines, with examples, how children as young as infants and toddlers can begin to show interest and mathematical concepts. The paper discusses how educators can introduce and support mathematical ideas in a manner that is appropriate for even the youngest children. With infants and toddlers, it is important for caregivers to model correct and appropriate language, so an intentional and consistent use of age-appropriate and math-specific vocabulary goes a long way with very young children (Parlakian, 2022).
