Step 1: Initial Professional Learning Portfolio Assessment

Your Professional Learning Assessment is a dedicated opportunity to step away from the demands of the day and take a deeper look at you as an educator.
Rather than giving you a generic list of courses, workshops, or professional development topics, an ECERALibrary ECE Coach works with you to uncover professional learning opportunities connected to your actual experiences, questions, challenges, strengths, and goals.
Before Your Session
You will complete a short Professional Learning Intake Questionnaire designed to help you begin thinking about:
- Your strengths as an educator
- Areas of practice you would like to strengthen
- Challenges you are currently experiencing
- The needs and interests emerging within your program
- Previous professional learning goals and experiences
- Questions you have been carrying about your practice
- Areas where you would like greater confidence, knowledge, or support
Your responses give your ECE Coach a starting point for understanding where you are now and where your professional learning could take you next.
During Your Assessment
This is not a TEST of your knowledge or an evaluation of your performance.
It is a guided professional reflection.
Together, you and your ECE Coach will explore your current practice, previous learning goals, classroom or program realities, children’s emerging interests, pedagogical questions, professional challenges, and areas you would like to develop.
Through reflective conversation, we help you move from:
“I’m struggling with this.”
to
“This is something I can learn more about.”
and ultimately:
“This is how my learning can strengthen my practice.”

Your Personalized Professional Learning Plan
Your learning should reflect your practice, your professional responsibilities, and the children and families you work with.
Following your assessment, your ECE Coach will review the information gathered through your intake questionnaire and reflective conversation to develop personalized professional learning recommendations.
Within 5 business days, you will receive:
Three Proposed Professional Learning Goals
You will receive three thoughtfully developed professional learning goal options based on the priorities, questions, and opportunities identified during your assessment.
These goals are designed to help you move beyond broad intentions such as:
“I want to learn more about behaviour.”
and toward focused, meaningful professional learning that can be connected back to your everyday practice.
Curated Professional Learning Resources
You will also receive a collection of professional learning resources selected specifically around your proposed goals.
Depending on your learning needs, recommendations may include:
