Professional learning should be recognized.

RECEs invest their time, energy, and often their own money into strengthening their professional practice. ECERALibrary is advocating for greater recognition of that commitment through a proposed Professional Learning Tax Credit for early childhood educators.

Professional learning strengthens educators, professional practice, and ultimately the experiences of children and families. Yet RECEs may personally cover the costs of courses, workshops, resources, and other learning opportunities that support their continued professional growth.

The Investment in Professional Learning Adds Up.

For RECEs, professional learning can mean paying for workshops, webinars, courses, conferences, books, memberships, learning resources, and other opportunities that strengthen professional knowledge and practice.

These aren’t simply personal purchases. They are investments educators make in their professional growth.

The Proposal: A Professional Learning Tax Credit

ECERALibrary is advocating for a dedicated tax credit that recognizes the financial investment RECEs make in their ongoing professional learning.

A Professional Learning Tax Credit could help offset eligible professional learning expenses while sending an important message: the continued professional growth of early childhood educators has value.

What Could a Tax Credit Mean for an RECE?

Even a modest annual tax credit could help recognize some of the personal investment RECEs make in maintaining and strengthening their professional practice.

WORKSHOPS & WEBINARS

Help offset the cost of learning opportunities connected to an educator’s professional goals and practice.

COURSES & CERTIFICATIONS

Help make deeper professional learning opportunities more financially accessible to educators who choose to pursue them.

BOOKS & LEARNING RESOURCES

Help offset the cost of professional books, resources, and materials that support continued learning and reflective practice.

Supporting professional learning is not only an investment in educators → it is an investment in the quality of early childhood education.

Why This Matters for the Profession

RECEs are expected to engage in ongoing professional learning throughout their careers. Recognizing some of the financial investment involved reinforces an important idea: professional learning is part of professional practice.

Greater support for professional learning can help educators access meaningful opportunities to deepen their knowledge, strengthen their practice, and continue responding to the evolving needs of children, families, and early learning communities.
