Going Beyond a Land Acknowledgement

This document, created by the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) in collaboration with Indigenous educators and allies, is a comprehensive resource designed to support educators in advancing equity, human rights, and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. It outlines ETFO’s commitment to fostering inclusive environments free from discrimination and harassment, promoting understanding and respect for diversity, and addressing systemic inequities. The guide includes practical tools, land acknowledgment guidance, and strategies to integrate First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) perspectives into educational practices. It aligns with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, particularly #62 and #63, emphasizing the importance of reconciliation in daily life and education (ETFO, 2019).
